Harrison School Programs
(PTO) Parent Teacher Organization- Parents and Teachers work together to promote school programs and student achievement. Meetings are held monthly. Fundraisers are held at least twice a year and parental support is encouraged.
Reading Buddies- Volunteers from the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) volunteer weekly to service our students in reading and math.
Character Club- Students in grades 4 & 5 are selected to participate in public service activities throughout the year to build their self- esteem by helping others in the community. Some of the activities they have organized are Canned Food Drive at Thanksgiving, Clothing and Toy Drive at Christmas, Hearts for Deborah Heart & Lung Center, and Character Week. The club was awarded the 2005 Kidsbridge Children's Museum Young Humanitarian Award for Extraordinary Leadership and Community Service.
Extended Day Program (Clubs): Academic Enrichment opportunities are available through the Office of Funded Programs at the Board of Education building at 108 N. Clinton Ave.
Field Trips: Students are taken on class trips to enhance the curricular needs of their grade level.
School Programs: Various school programs such as the 4-H Club, PEI Kids (Kids On The Block), and Camp Fire (Safe and Sure) present useful information to our classes throughout the year. Community After School Programs such as the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and daSCOOP Program (Social Celebrations Organizations Opportunity & People) are available for students to participate in. Student Awards: Honor Roll Perfect Attendance- Students are recognized for this achievement each quarter.
Classroom Programs:
Resource Center (for classified students)- Students are instructed according to the needs determined by their Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
Speech and Language Services- Students are provided these services as determined by a speech and language assessment and /or their Individualized Educational Program.
Special Subject Areas: Physical Education, Media- These classes are provided weekly to each class.
