Ms. Terri Kelly - SSHS Family Intervention Therapist/Student Assistance Coordinator Ms. Terri Kelly has been the district’s student assistance specialist for nineteen years. Prior to that, she was a student assistance counselor at Trenton Central High School. Terri received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Millersville University. She has attended graduate school at Chestnut Hill College and Millersville University. In 1988, she obtained her certification as a Certified Addictions Counselor, and later in 1993 was certified in New Jersey as a student assistance coordinator. Terri has had extensive experience in the field of addictions and student services. For many years, she worked as a drug and alcohol therapist in a residential/outpatient facility in Pennsylvania. She was Trenton’s first student assistance coordinator and was responsible for creating and implementing the first comprehensive Safe and Drug Free Schools Program for the Trenton Public Schools. Terri was also involved in developing a community based Local Advisory Council to advocate for Safe and Drug Free Schools initiatives.

In her role as student assistance coordinator, Terri served on numerous municipal and county advisory boards that became instrumental in providing services for children and adolescents. More recently, Terri actively participated in the development and implementation of the Emergency Response Crisis Management Plan, including being awarded certification as an emergency responder through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In April 2010, Terri was appointed Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant Coordinator and later in March 2011, was appointed Family Intervention Therapist/Student Assistance Coordinator. In this capacity she will provide family therapy to students and families throughout the district as part of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative. She will also conduct assessments and referrals for student who may need other services.

Mr. Marc Freeman - Family Intervention Therapist/Student Assistance Coordinator Mr. Freeman worked as a Certified Substance Awareness Counselor in the Trenton Public School System for 17 years. In this capacity he helped students who may have been affected by someone drug or alcohol use. He also referred students to various treatment facilities and community agencies. During his time as a SAC Mr. Freeman worked in several schools including Dunn School, Holland Middle School and Trenton Central High School. Mr. Freeman served in several capacities during his tenure at Trenton Central High School. He was the Chair of the school's Crisis Response Team and a member of the School Leadership Council. In addition he was a member of the Intervention and Referral Team (I&RS team) and the Local Advisory Board. Mr. Freeman earned a bachelor of science degree in Media Communications from East Stroudsburg University, and a Master of Social Work degree from Temple University. While at Temple his program focused on Families and Youth with a specialization in clinical practice In 2008 he received his Master of Divinity/Master of Social Work degree from Palmer Theological Seminary. While at Palmer much of his work focused on Urban ministry. In 2008 he completed his Master's Thesis entitled Urban Ministry: How African American Churches in Trenton, NJ Can Reduce Gang Violence. Mr. Freeman is a Certified School Social Worker and in September of 2010 he secured the position of Family Intervention/Therapist Student Assistance Coordinator with the Trenton Board of Education. In this capacity he will provide family therapy to students and families throughout the district. He will also conduct assessments and referrals for student who may need other services.

Ms. Carla Thomas - Family Intervention Therapist/Student Assistance Coordinator Mrs. Carla Thomas was previously a Certified Substance Awareness Coordinator at Hedgepeth-Williams School for 10 years. During this time she provided assessment and referral services to students who were affected by substance abuse. During the 2009-10 school year she was also a SAC at P.J. Hill School. Carla holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from Rider University. She also matriculated at Farleigh-Dickinson University. Mrs. Thomas is Certified Social Worker for the state of NJ. In the past she has served on a number of advisory boards and committees including the Local Advisory Counsel, the Crisis Response Team, The School Management Team and the Intervention and Referral Team (I&RS team). Mrs. Thomas has also been trained in the nationally accredited Character Counts Program. The program was designed by the Josephson Institute. She used the program to help students learn and develop positive character traits. In September of 2010 Mrs. Thomas secured the position of Family Intervention/Therapist Student Assistance Coordinator with the Trenton Board of Education. In this capacity she will provide family therapy to students and families throughout the district as part of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative. She will also conduct assessments and referrals for student who may need other services.
