Dear Parent, Grandparent, Guardian, Friend, and Wilson Website Visitor,

We welcome you to Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, one of the District’s four elementary bilingual centers. Our school services students who have been identified as English Language Learners (ELL); our faculty and staff work with these students to help them improve their writing and speaking ability in English.

Many students are bused to Wilson School from various schools in the Trenton District; we welcome them into our school. The expectations for them and every Wilson student are that they will be serious about their education and achieve to their highest potential.  Our school-wide focus of care and respect for all individuals resonates throughout our school, each and every individual is valued and is expected to be treated with dignity and respect at all times.

We have enthusiastically prepared for the start of the 2011-12 academic school year. Our School Rules are posted throughout our school; each grade level began the year with a Character Education Assembly, lead by the principal. We spent time sharing expectations for our students’ behavior, reviewing our School Rules, and most importantly the expectations for our students’ academic achievement for the current year. Students are challenged frequently and expected to rise to the occasion daily; they are assigned homework everyday and they are expected to return their homework assignments the following day. Children must arrive to school on time (8:45 a.m.); this is vital to their success. Our parents are expected to help us help their children be the very best; as “we believe the children are our future.”

We expect a large percentage of our students to return to school in their Wilson School Uniforms, our official uniform colors are “Powder Blue Tops and Khaki (beige/light brown bottoms);” our teachers and staff members understand the benefits of having our students dressed appropriately.  Many of our teachers and other staff members have voluntarily opted to join our students in purchasing and wearing their official Trenton District Uniform. We realize it is also very helpful to our parents when their children know what they are expected to wear everyday; in addition, studies have shown that students tend to focus on their academics more and not be so concerned about what they or their peers are wearing. Parents are encouraged to remind their children to wear their School Uniforms every day.

Parents and visitors are encouraged to visit our school any day after our Language Arts Literacy block which ends at ten thirty (10:30 a.m.) daily. This period of time is set aside everyday to give our students ample time to focus on their reading, writing, speaking, thinking, and listening skills. We have planned many, many exciting activities for our parents this year; our Back to School Night (September 22nd) will be followed by four FAST meetings for our parents, two Technology Days for Parents, Wilson’s G & T Art, Dance, and Music Night, Young Authors’ Night, Science Fair, PTO Family Reading Night, PTO Test Taking Strategies Night, PTO Family Math Night, and several assembly programs.  Wilson is a school where parents are valued, respected, and encouraged to become our Partners in Education; together we can make a positive difference in each child’s life. Wilson newsletters are sent home bi-monthly to inform parents of the exciting events that take place at our school.

We are all very proud of our school, our faculty and staff, our students, and our parents.  The partnerships we have developed and will continue to develop will assist each child to become the very best that he/she can become. Our goal is to help each child “graduate with a vision for their future and prepared to succeed in their choice of college or career;” together this can become a reality for each of our students.  We expect to see you very soon and often as we begin another exciting and engaging year at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School.

Sincerely,

Marzene Bennett, Principal
