New Jersey Nutrition Policy
In addressing the obesity problem in the United States, New Jersey has implemented a nutrition policy to ensure that students are fit, healthy and ready to learn. In Westhampton, we are proud to state that the foods served in our cafeterias meet the standards as outlined in that policy. In addition, all snack and beverage items sold or given out anywhere in school during the school day will also meet certain criteria. They will:
* have no more than 8 grams of total fat per serving, with the exception of nuts and seeds.
* have no more than 2 grams of saturated fat per serving.
* not be foods of minimal nutritional value as defined by U. S. Department of Agriculture regulations. For example, soda.
* not list sugar, in any form, as the first ingredient.
* not be candy.
* if a beverage, not exceed 12 ounces (except water and milk with 2% or less fat).

SPORTS PHYSICALS: Daylight/Twilight students are encouraged to participate in Sports and may try out for teams at Trenton Central High School. Any student who is interested in trying out for a sport team or participating in an intramural team in Trenton School District must have a current physical. These teams include soccer, field hockey, basketball, cheerleading, wrestling, step and drill, dance, baseball, softball and lacrosse. A current physical (within 365 days of the first day of try outs) must be completed by their doctor on the school physical form before they may tryout for a sport or participate in intramurals. The examining physician must complete the entire section listed under the physical examination. This includes height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and vision. As per state law, the school nurse may not add to this form.
In addition to a current physical, each student must have a health history questionnaire completed by their parent/guardian within 60 days of the first day of tryouts or participation in intramurals. A new health history questionnaire must be completed for each sport that a student wishes to play.
If your child has asthma requiring an inhaler, an inhaler must be sent to school in the box from the pharmacy with their name, medication name and dosage imprinted on it. Also a medical release form for inhalers signed by the parent/guardian and physician, and an asthma action plan completed by the physician is required. These forms are available above.
Once the school receives the physical and health history questionnaire, the school doctor must then review them and give final approval.
Physicals and Health History Questionnaires are available through the main office at Trenton Central High School or through the Athletic department.
*Please note: New legislation recently passed now requires a sports physical before participation in school-sponsored interscholastic or intramural athletic teams or squads.

MEDICATION IN SCHOOL: In order for your child to receive medication in school, the following conditions must be met whether for prescription or over the counter medications (this includes Tylenol or Motrin):
1. A current prescription stating the drug, dosage, time of administration, diagnosis involved and whether it may be withheld for field trips.
2. Written permission from parent/guardian for the medication to be given. A medication form is available from the nurse. (If an inhaler is required, please go to asthma action plan. This will enable your child to carry his/her medication on field trips or after school sports events. For all other medication, go to medication permission. - this includes epi-pen permission)
3. Medication in a clearly labeled prescription bottle that must remain in school until medication is completed or discontinued.
The following is the procedure for the transportation of medication to school:
1. The school district prefers that medication be delivered to school by the student's parent or guardian.
2. In cases where this is not possible, due to work schedules, etc., the following procedure should be followed:
a. The parent should place the medication bottle in an envelope, paper bag, etc. and seal the bag with tape.
b. Include with the medication a note signed by the parent stating the number of pills and the date sent.
c. The child must deliver the package to the nurse as soon as he/she gets off the bus.
d. The nurse will verify and document the number of pills.
Under no circumstances may a student have in his/her possession or administer to himself/herself any medication in school, on the playground, or on the school bus except for the above guidelines. Any medication brought to school in envelopes, plastic bags, etc. will not be given.
At the end of the school year, medication still in the health office must be picked up by a parent/guardian or it will be discarded.
