Hello. My name is Richard Susswein and I am the computer teacher here at Grant Elementary School located in historic Trenton, New Jersey. I teach grades Pre-School, Pre-K through grade 5 including Bilingual and Special Education classes.

The Computer Learning Center has 30 networked Dell computers using the Windows2000 Professional operating system. All of the computer stations have Internet access through the districts dedicated T1 line. Each computer is set in an ergonomically designed desk. The monitors are under the desktop.

We also have an assortment of Macintosh computers along with a VHF, UHF and HF Amateur Radio Station. My call sign is KJ2D. This radio station is capable of transmitting and receiving information through digital as well as voice communication.

The radio station started at the school in May of 1990. Since then hundreds of contacts have been made throughout the world. The children can communicate with people of all ages and all walks of life.

One of my goals as a teacher here is to encourage our youth to become more excited about science and technology, and make learning fun!

Being a ham radio operator I have always been able to receive the correct time either with station WWV, or CHU. Both of these stations use Atomic Powered Clocks. Now with the Internet the time can be obtained without a shortwave receiver.  Please be advised that if you decide to run software to sync your computers clock against an atomic clock, realize the nature of the internet is that any given signal could be routed differently every time you receive it. So, the lag time between the atomic clock and your computer could be fairly off if networks are busy.  Radio reception is much more consistent.
