They must include the following items in their household budget: mortgage/rent, food, electricity, other utilities, taxes, clothes, transportation, and entertainment. You may want them to include more areas. ; Limit the total amount of money they have each month by a polynomial. Have students limit the amount they spend on each item to a binomial.

Activity-Have students discuss a trip to a shopping mall to buy clothes. Encourage them to role-play a scene in which a customer buys a shirt and sweater. Ask students to identify how the commutative property of addition affects the amount of the purchase.
Objective: Students will be able to use the percent equation to find a percent of a number.
Activity-Invite students to consult with family members and determine how the income their family receives each month is spent. Have students compile their data in the form of a circle graph.
