
Fat Free Pancakes
Introduction: Grandma is coming for a visit tomorrow, and her doctor has put her on a fat free diet. You really love your grandma and would like to do something very nice for her. You have found a fat free recipe for pancakes, which serves eight. Since Grandma can't eat eight pancakes, you'll need to find 1/2 of the recipe. Mom found out about your neat idea and wanted to taste your creation, so now you need to find 3/4 of the recipe.
Prior Knowledge: The learners should be introduced to multiplying fractions.
Grade Level: 5-7
Task: The end result should be that the learners will be able to multiply fractions easily.
Resources: The students will need access to the Web site listed, paper, and pencil.

Learning Advice: When using this lesson, try to choose a recipe which uses ingredients that can easily be divided. Eggs would be difficult to use.

Extensions: Converting teaspoons to tablespoons and tablespoons to cups.
Conclusion: The students will feel comfortable in multiplying fractions.
