
Going Shopping
Objective: To give children a basic understanding of economy, buying and
spending, the value of money.
Materials:
Catalogues and advertisements from different stores, clothes, food, electronic
equipment.
Play money
Different products as advertised in catalogues or advertisements.
Play/Real cash register/s or calculators
Set up the different shops with the cash register and the products to buy.
Clearly mark the denomination value of the item.
Hand out the money to the children enough for them to purchase some products
from the store. Hand out the advertisements for them to look at. Discuss
different shops and products, look at different brand names (word
identification). Let them choose some products that they would like to buy and
let them do the shopping. Some kids can be the shop assistant working the cash
register. Rotate after a while so that another child be the shop assistant.
