
Monthly Cost of Living – Food
Learning Objectives:
Students will learn
how much it costs to feed a family.

Activities:
- Students will
be placed in an imaginary job situation where they are making $2.00 per hour
above minimum wage. From this they will find out how much money they are
making per month.
- Teacher will
give group the Monthly Cost of Living Worksheets
- Students will
brainstorm in small group to come up with 1 weeks worth of menus. They will
then breakdown what food items are needed to buy at the store. After the
breakdown of items students will go to the Internet and shop, collecting the
cost of each item, add it all up for the week, then times it by 4 for the
month. Students should only spend between 1/4 to 1/3 of their monthly
income.
