Ruler Postulate,  Ruler Placement Postulate, and Segment Addition Postulate

NJ CCCS 4.2

Objective:  Students will be able to explain and give examples for the Ruler Postulate, the Ruler Placement Postulate, and Segment Addition Postulate.

 

Activity-Have students work with the NASDAQ or Dow Jones Index in a daily newspaper.  Allow students to choose a specific stock and follow its activity for a week.  If necessary, help them identify the price and gain and/or loss in the stock’s newspaper entry.  Have them record the information on a number line.  They should record the first day’s price as point A on the line and the gains and/or losses in points over the week as points B, C, D, and E.  Encourage each student to present his or her number line to the class and use it to explain the stock’s activity.
