Activity 2: Build and Present a Model Fish

A.  Choose your favorite fish and then build the model according to the following:

·Materials needed: banner paper; markers, paint or crayons; yarn, old newspaper, scissors, hole puncher.
·Draw the outline of your favorite fish on a large piece of banner paper (approximately 2 feet long).
·Next, cut out the outline and trace its exact dimensions on a second sheet of banner paper. Cut out the second outline also.
·Now decorate your fish the way it is presented in pictures on the links in the other sections found in the Life in the Ocean Home Page.
·Staple both sides together leaving an opening to stuff newspaper in between them.
·When the fish is stuffed finish stapling it.
·Punch a hole at each end of the fish and tie yarn through it.
·Hang fish from the ceiling or around the classroom and let the other students try to identify their proper names.

 

B.  Questions - Write a short paragraph to answer each and present the information in your paragraphs along with your model to the class.

1. Why did you choose your fish as your favorite?

2. What is the normal length of your fish.

3. What interesting facts did you learn about your favorite type of fish?

4. What problems did you find in building your model?

5. What did you like most about this activity?
