Welcome to the Franklin Elementary School (Trenton, New Jersey) ‘Life in the Ocean Home Page.’  This web site has been created to make it easy for Franklin students to explore Internet resources in order to learn more about life in the ocean.  For your first activity, click on the various links in the Layers in the Ocean and Orders of Life in the Sea sections, and read in the web sites presented.  Reflect on and then discuss what your have read with the others in your class, and choose a favorite sea animal.  Your concluding assignments are listed in the Activities and Samples section.  Choose one assignment and complete it as your final project for this unit.  Click here to begin.

Ocean Layers
 
Scientists have divided the ocean into 5 main layers. These layers, known as "zones," extend from the surface to the most extreme depths where light can no longer penetrate. These deep zones are where some of the most bizarre and fascinating creatures can be found. As we dive deeper into these largely unexplored places, the temperature drops and the pressure increases at an astounding rate...
