Monument School's Back to School Night                     (Lots of photos below)

Monument School held its first parent meeting on Wednesday, September 16, 2003. Lots of parents and grandparents attended and met the Monument staff members.  Many of the parents were "new faces" that we hadn't yet met.  We are all excited about working with our parents this year to continue to make Monument the "BEST" elementary school in the Trenton Public School district!

Mr. Albert Williams,  the interim principal, welcomed one and all, and reviewed our plans for the school year.  Mr. Calvin Thomas. a graduate of Monument School, and a past president of our PTO, also addressed the parents.  He spoke about the DADS program, a mentorship program that fosters positive male role models in our school community.  He encouraged all the men in the audience to volunteer some of their time at Monument School,  whether it be a little bit of time each day or on a weekly basis.  For more information, please contact our main office.

Mrs. Berlinda Britt, our PTO president, introduced the PTO officers and Executive Board, and encouraged the parents to get involved in the PTO.  They will be working on creating a webpage to help parents stay in touch with the happenings at Monument School.

Mrs. Wolfson, our guidance counselor,  talked briefly about the role of the family support team and Mrs. Haluszka, our new social worker, explained her role in the social services she will provide.

Ms. Eckert, our Technology Facilitator, spoke about the importance of the use of the Internet in the daily curriculum, and demonstrated the Trenton District and Monument School websites.  She further explained the importance of having parental consent for using photographs of our students on those websites.  Parents can go to the website for the monthly calendars, current events, homework assignments on individual teacher's pages, the lunch menu, and so much more.

Mrs. Bage, the SFA facilitator,  explained the Success For All requirement to read twenty minutes daily with your child.  She stressed the importance of making sure your child is able to meet this daily requirement.

After some questions and answers, parents were invited to visit their child's classroom and meet the teachers.

Enjoy the photos and thanks for attending Back to School Night ! !
