Here's the place to check out MORE of the fun things happening at Monument School ! ! !

1st Day of School

Back to School Night

Today was the day --- our first day back at Monument school ! !  And boy, were we ready....with our new hairdos, and clean white sneakers, t-shirts with attitude and those fancy patent leather pumps.  We are ready....how about you?  Have a great year everyone ! ! !   Monument's Back to School Night was a well attended event.  Parents were able to visit their child's classroom,  visit the several kiosk stations and gather information about our reading, literacy, math, guidance and technology programs.  Refreshments were provided in the cafeteria after the classroom visits.

Liberty Science's

Magical Science Circus

Anti-Violence Week

All of Monument's students were mesmerized by the cool science happenings brought to us by the traveling Liberty Science Circus.  The boys and girls were dazzled by the popping seeds, the inflated balloons, crushed cans in ice water, static electricity, and the fog ! ! !  Many of our students were brave enough to even step on stage and be part of the experiment.  Would you have been that brave?   Monument School held a number of assemblies on Anti-Violence this past week.  We had a skit on classroom behavior, our local  Assembly legislators spoke about gang violence, Juvenile Justice inmates spoke on their life’s experience in jail, and a video was shown on “Girls in Trouble.”  It was all about Choices, Decisions & Consequences !

TCNJ's College Bound Program

Staff vs. Students Basketball Game

Ms. Crystal Smith from The College of New Jersey visited Mr. Clark's 8th grade classroom to present the College Bound ---Why College? program.  The students are exploring career and college paths.

In anticipation of our upcoming intramural basketball season for the middle school grades, Mr. Barbato and Mr. Fairchild sponsored a special game for the Monument student body.  Many brave Monument staff members accepted the challenge to compete against our middle school players on December 22, 2005.  The staff team won the game with a score of 51-25.

The Pro-Action Team

Was on the Move

Making  "Music Together"

 in the Pre-Kindergarten

The Pro-Action Team visited Monument to encourage our students to develop their talents, follow their dreams, and to make a positive difference. Their programs focused more on what makes life work, rather than what doesn't.  They believe that you can offset the negative issues through education, character development, and through problem-solving and conflict resolution.  One of our students was brave enough to volunteer and mastered a very difficult maneuver on the trampoline.  Kudos to him !!   Room A-28 was filled with the sounds of laughter,  merry music and the rhythmic dancing of our pre-kindergarten students and their parents.  Led by Miss Linda and Miss Ronnie, teachers from the Trenton Music School and sponsored by the Early Childhood Dept., parents joined in the fun with their children.

A Talented Author

Homework Champions

Crystal Jones, a fourth grader in Mrs. Culver's fourth grade class at Monument School, won second prize in the McDonald's Black History Contest entitled "Inspiration Makes Me...."  The winning essay compares modern life to the inequality of segregation.  She won $350 in American Express Gift Cheques.  Crystal is a talented author!   Several of the students in Mr. Dockery’s and Mr. Williams’ class earned the right to be called “HOMEWORK CHAMPIONS”.

They won a special trip to DCM Slot Car & Speed Shop located in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. They learned a great deal about the electrical and mechanical features of the different slot cars.  The students held competitions against each other for the endurance competition by keeping their car on the track the longest without having any accidents, and for the total race.

Mr. Dockery stated:  “ONCE YOU DISCOVER THEIR INTEREST, INCENTIVES TRULY WORK!"

Grounds for Sculpture Adventure

Mrs. Meredith Dornbach took her very best art students to the Grounds for Sculpture.  They explored the park with sketch pads in hand.  As they followed the paths through the winding landscapes and the hidden trails, they enjoyed the wonderment of it all.  There were so many beautiful things to see that they all want to come back for another visit.
