Trenton, the capital of the United States
Did you know that our city was once the capital of the United States like Washington D.C. is now.  During November and December of 1784, Trenton served as the capital of theUnited States of America. Shortly after, a compromise between the northern and southern states moved the capital to what is now Washington D.C.  Can you imagine what Trenton would be like today if it had remained here.  Would there be cherry trees along the Delaware?  The newly drafted U.S. Constitution was approved in Trenton in December 1787 by representative from all over our state.  George Washington made a stop here in 1789 on his way to his presidential inauguration in New York.
Although we are not the national capital, Trenton still remains the capital of New Jersey and Mercer County.
