Mercer Museum, Mitchner Museum, and Fonthill
Do you enjoy history? Mercer Museum is the place for you. Henry Mercer (Unrelated to Mercer County, NJ) noticed that the world was changing rapidly around him around 1900. Machines were beginning to take over daily life. He decided to make a collection of artifacts of life at the time before the horse and buggy days were over. He built a realistic castle to house his collection.
Mercer ran a pottery mill nearby. He built a castle to live in called Font Hill. Both are open for tours. Across the street from the Mercer Museum is the James Mitchner Art Musuem which houses an extensive collection built largely from funds donated by the famous writer.
