The
Trenton Public School H.O.P.E. Program, is an acronym for Homeless Outreach,
Prevention and Empowerment Program. The mission of the HOPE program is to
provide every identified displaced student with the tools necessary to
achieve academically and socially, to provide supportive services to their
families and help to heal the entire family as a whole, while improving
their quality of life, despite their circumstances.
The
Trenton Board of Education has taken and will continue to take an aggressive
approach in meeting the unique, pressing and emerging needs of homeless
children, youth, and their families. All of our District’s children,
regardless of circumstances, deserve access to a free and appropriate public
education of the highest order. The Homeless Liaison, who is the program
director, will continuously advocate and fights for the rights of students
and families with issues within the school and in the community.
The
Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance is intended to ensure that the
rights of homeless children and youth are being addressed. Trenton has
received funds from the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Education Grant to
enhance and expand its programs that assist homeless children and youth, for
over ten years.
There are
a numerous number of services and activities students and families have such
as: food pantry, clothing bank, transportation to/from school, after school
programming, summer camp, tutoring services to name just a few. |
