Special Events
In early May we were visited by world renowned author Martin Wach and his artist wife, Delia. Together they write and illustrate children's stories in an attempt to educate the children of the world about the rain forest. Their book, Teddy Bear Guardians of the Rain Forest, can be found in most book stores throughout the country.
Invited by our Writer's Network, they spent an entire week with the Trenton Public schools. Each day of the week was spent at a different school: Grant, Stokes, Gregory, and Franklin.
The children in both Gregory and Stokes Schools enjoyed their visit immensely. In addition to being given the opportunity to ask questions and hear stories about the Suriname Rain Forest, they were treated to a lesson on how to paint characters with water colors.
Our writers in the network were given extra time with them to see first hand how books are written, illustrated, and published.
