Mr. Keith Taylor, Vice Principal

The Visual and Performing Arts Small Learning Community at TCHS believes in fostering the academic success of each student. It is our mission to create a true learning community based on:

• Addressing individual learning styles and expression of learning.
• Providing a nurturing environment for exploring personal talents and interests.
• Creating an atmosphere that promotes social, intellectual and moral growth.

As we deliver our standards-based curriculum through multiple mediums—including arts and performances—we teach students valuable life skills:
• Creative problem solving for real-life situations.
• Sophisticated communication skills for expressing personal ideas and beliefs.
• Collaborative spirit for working with one another in a positive way.

In supporting students through a rigorous academic journey, performance and artistry serves as a method for gauging learning in our community. High standards and expectations often lead to the quality artistic products; however the creative process will be the focus of our efforts. Creating and creativity requires a process—one that is unique for individuals and not the same time after time. During the process of trial and error; laughter and frustration; creation, destruction and recreation learning and knowledge is acquired. The creative process encourages critical thinking, self-reflection, passion and participation from all involved.
